ASSE To Host International Fall Protection Symposium At June Professional Development Conference
Des Plaines, IL - The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), in partnership with the International Society for Fall Protection (ISFP), will feature an International Fall Protection Symposium (IFPS) June 16-17, in conjunction with its professional development conference (PDC) in Baltimore, MD, June 13-16. Since its inception in 1988, the ISFP has been dedicated to reducing fall-related injuries and fatalities by promoting research and facilitating communication among industry professionals. ASSE is proud to be working with the ISFP to promote awareness for fall safety and facilitate professional development.
The IFPS will provide an international, multi-disciplinary platform for safety practitioners, regulators and scholars to network and exchange information regarding new and emerging fall protection issues. This year's IFPS focuses on the theme, "Progress through Collaboration," which will concentrate on fall accidents as a global concern. Presentation topics will cover a wide range of fall safety issues, such as engineered system design, models for fall arrest testing and industrial rope access techniques. Featured speakers include Karl-Heinz Noetel, Director of the Technical Department of Berufsgenossenschaft der Bauwirtschaft (Bau-BG), an accident insurance and prevention institution in Germany, Andrew Sulowski, author and four-patent holder on fall protection equipment and Randall Wingfield, current president of ISFP.
The ASSE PDC, June 13-16, will feature a wide range of professional development topics and tracks including: nanomaterials; ergonomic successes; safety management; technical/engineering/standards; regulatory issues and government; career and personal development; international issues; risk management and insurance; construction and mining; environment and hazardous material; transportation; business skills; fire protection; consulting; health and industrial hygiene; healthcare; training and education; emergency management and security; Spanish-language sessions; and the new executive track.
In addition to the many sessions and exposition booths to visit, an executive summit panel will be open to all attendees consisting of senior-level management discussing views on the importance of employee safety and health and the expectations business and industry leaders have on the role of SH&E professionals. NASA's Assistant Administrator – Office of Infrastructure Olga M. Dominguez, of NASA Headquarters, and VP Human Resources and Administration for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding William R. Ermatinger will headline the executive summit. Key issue roundtables will also be offered during the concurrent session periods where attendees can discuss and share ideas, challenges and successes, as well as network.
