EHS/S Professionals Participate In Emergency Response Training

Bethesda, MD - Environmental, health, safety and security (EHS/S) professionals from across the country will participate in a real-life training scenario here next week that will simulate the release of hazardous materials on a Metrorail train.

The training session will take place during the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (ACHMM) National Conference, set for August 12 to 15 at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City.

The August 13 emergency response scenario will simulate the release of hazardous chemicals on a Metrorail train. The session will be staged by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the hazardous materials teams of the Arlington and Alexandria fire departments and the Pentagon.

EHS/S participants will observe the rescue and the nine-step decontamination procedure as well as the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' (COG), or mutual-aid, response to the episode. After the drill, EHS/S participants will visit with the hazmat teams' members to talk about the training scenario and to examine their state-of-art equipment.

Nearly 1,000 EHS/S professionals are expected to attend the ACHMM National Conference. The event offers informative technical sessions, pre-conference workshops, panel discussions and plenary sessions led by prominent industry speakers and industry-leading instructors. These events will cover environmental due-diligence, hazardous-materials transportation, protective equipment, employee safety and a range of other topics that will provide attendees excellent information about the latest EHS/S industry trends.
